2008-2009

The faculty and staff of Claxton Elementary School believe education is a cooperative venture between home and school.  Parental involvement promotes positive school experiences, and we look forward to partnering with you this year.

School Responsibilities

As a staff member, I encourage and support students’ learning as listed below.

• Provide high-quality curriculum and instruction in a supportive and effective learning environment that enables the participating children to meet the state’s student academic achievement standards as follows below.

ü      Use academic learning time efficiently

ü      Provide a safe, supportive, and effective learning environment

ü      Respect cultural, racial, and ethnic differences

ü      Implement “A Blueprint for Learning: A Teacher’s Guide to the Tennessee Curriculum”

ü      Implement Anderson County School District’s curriculum map

ü      Offer high quality instruction in all academic areas   

ü      Maintain a "Highly Qualified Status"  
 

• Hold parent-teacher conferences (at least annually) and discuss this compact as it relates to the individual child’s achievement.  School-wide conferences are scheduled during the following times.

ü      End of the first or beginning of the second grading period

ü      End of the third or beginning of the fourth grading period

• Communicate children’s progress frequently and clearly through the following mean.

ü      Conferences

ü      Report cards

ü      Progress reports

ü      Notes/letters

ü      Telephone calls

ü      E-mail

• Provide parents with reasonable access to staff and arrange appointments through the following means.

ü      Telephone calls

ü      E-mail messages

ü      Written request

• Provide parents with ways to volunteer and participate in their child’s class, and to observe classroom activities, through the following opportunities.

ü      Service on school-wide committees

ü      PTO membership

ü      Volunteer service in classrooms or the media center

ü      Observation in Reading Recovery and/or classroom literacy lessons

As the Principal, I support high-quality educational opportunities and parent-school involvement as stated below.

Parent/Guardian Responsibilities

As a parent/guardian, I will encourage and support my child’s learning in the following ways.

• Monitor attendance
• Provide ample study-time for homework, ensure homework is completed, and monitor progress and problems discovered through returned class work  and assessments
• Set a reasonable bedtime and ensure my child is well-rested for school
• Read, sign, and return all school notices whether received through my child or the mail
• Monitor my child’s use of, and time engaged with, the following types of electronic media devices.

ü      Television

ü      Computer and other electronic games

ü      Internet activities

ü      MP3 or other listening devices

ü      Telephones

• Attend parent-teacher conferences and meetings when requested
• Volunteer in my child’s classroom or at the school as needed
• Set an example for my child by being a lifelong learner
• Ensure appropriate use of free-time

Student Responsibilities

As a student, I share the responsibility to improve my academic achievement and to meet my state’s high standards for learning by doing the following tasks.

• Read daily outside of school as required by my teacher
• Attend school regularly
• Bring necessary learning tools to class
• Cooperate with parents, teachers, and peers
• Participate in classroom activities
• Ask for help when needed
• Show  respect for people and property
• Give my parent or guardian all school notices, information, folders and/or planner on the day I receive them
• Demonstrate respectful, responsible behavior in all areas including the classroom, cafeteria, playground, and hallways.
